Background information: In 2007 the humanistic management movement was institutionalized by founding a charitable Swiss association in the Canton of St. Gallen in eastern Switzerland, beautifully nestled between lake Constance and the Alps.

The Swiss Chapter of the Humanistic Management Network works on the basis that a fundamental paradigm shift is needed in the way we define the purpose of business and its role in society. To this end the Swiss Chapter promotes the approach to humanistic management developed by the Humanistic Management Center that is based on the three pillars of 1) Respect for human dignity 2) Integration of ethical considerations in management decisions and 3) Engagement with stakeholders

Chapter activities: The Swiss Chapter of the Humanistic Management Network is undertaking three types of activities.

· Supporting the humanistic management movement globally by empowering and facilitating chapter activities worldwide

· Organizing and participating in events that aim to promote the ideas of humanistic management

· Providing input on further developing the foundations of humanistic management

The Swiss Chapter runs and channels its own activities mainly through the Humanistic Management Center (www.humanisticmanagement.org), an independent think–tank, learning institution and advisory firm in the corporate responsibility and business ethics arena.

Humanistic Management Network UK Chapter Launch

The Humanistic Management Network is growing internationally and aiming to establish country chapters that provide a support structure for its members locally. Chapters develop initiatives and activities that are driven by the interests and needs of its local membership base aligned to the broader goals of the Humanistic Management Network.

On the 17th of November the Humanistic Management Network will host the Launch event for its UK Chapter on the premises of The Young Foundation in London. The Conference programme is geared towards providing a balance of interactive elements and presentations to facilitate the exchange between participants and discussion with our highly esteemed speakers. Guests include Mary Hodgson, Director of Research at The Young Foundation, Mathew Taylor, CEO of The Royal Society for the Encouragement of Arts, Manufactures and Commerce (RSA) and Loughlin Hickey Founding Trustee and Advisor to Blueprint for Better Business. In addition there will be two workshops, the first focusing on what Humanistic Management is, and the second one on shaping the future for the UK Chapter of the Humanistic Management Network.

A World Ethos for Global Business?
Cosmopolitan Responsibilities of Management

We have a world economy but no world government; nor can we expect, at least in the foreseeable future, a system of decentralized global governance with sufficient sanctioning powers to enforce legal mandates for business worldwide. For this reason alone, the ethical dimension of business cannot be entrusted solely to the law. Globalized markets would seem to require an underlying ‘ethos’, present to some degree the world over: a common spirit of legitimate, just, and fair business practice substantiated by shared experience. As managers and economic decision-makers, however, are increasingly operating within multi-cultural settings with divergent social customs and conventions, no ‘one size fits all’ approach will do. While on the one hand the growing need for transnational cooperation accentuates the call for a shared ‘world ethos’ for the global business community, on the other hand any proposal in that direction must make room for the need for the diversity and divergence of culture and civilization. At the fifth annual Humanistic Management Conference, to be held at the University of Tuebingen’s Weltethos-Institut, we aim to address this dual need by investigating from various cultural perspectives: 1) how a world ethos for global business  could be variously articulated and promoted (‘theory’); 2)  the extent to which such an ethos is already present in contemporary globalized business (‘practice’); and 3) what civil society around the world can do to support the efforts of  (esp. multinational) corporations in this direction (‚policy’).

This event will be held at Fraport, the Frankfurt Airport operating company and is the kick-off event of the newly formed Business Ethics Division of the German Association for Sustainability and Environmental Management (VNU). The event is focused on the three core offers of our executive training brand Ethics First.

The event, titled Business Ethics and Responsible Leadership constitutes the inaugural event of the newly formed Business Ethics Division of the VNU and will be held on the 28th of April 2017 at the Frankfurt Airport headquarters of Fraport, one of the world's leading airport operators. This conference, organized by Klaus Schuler of Tripl3leader , offers the opportunity for an in depth exchange on three main topical areas which also represent the core offering of Ethics First, our Executive Training brand.

This project will publish the second volume of a case collection in the Humanism in Business Book Series demonstrating how humanistic management is put into practice.

In 2011 Humanistic Management in Practice, the first book of the Humanism in Business Book Series came out at Springer (Palgrave Macmillan), with whom the Humanistic Management Network has brought to market 14 books in the series to date. The first volume of Humanistic Management in Practice presented 19 case examples of businesses from around the globe that are anchored in principles we uphold in Humanistic Management. The volume served as an important 'proof of concept' by demonstrating the feasibility of business models and management styles that embrace a humanistic and reject a mechanistic view of the firm. In its introduction the book had also introduced unconditional respect for human dignity as the foundation for how we define Humanistic Management.

Five years on it is high time to publish a second volume with a new set of case examples of humanistic business leadership at its finest.
