Project Management Institute (PMI) is the world's leading not-for-profit professional membership association for the project, program and portfolio management profession. The Humanistic Management Center gladly accepted the invitation to present and discuss the foundations of a human centered management paradigm under the framing question of What Makes Organizations Great?. The main presupposition of this presentation is that the combination of democratic government and market economies has had a hugely liberating and prosperity generating effect in many parts of the world. Simultaneously however, we can increasingly observe the limitations of theories, policies and business practices that are based on the belief that market forces automatically and autonomously deliver desired results.

The HMC has been collaborating with Soka University in Tokyo, Japan for several years. During a semester long stay in Tokyo a range of activities provided the opportunity to promote Humanistic Management.

The following activities took place from April to July 2016:

  • One undergraduate course on Humanistic Management
  • A series of faculty workshops discussing elements of Humanistic Management including its fit to the Buddhist tradition of Soka University: Faculty workshop series
  • Several guest lectures and talks: Lecture on Key Drivers in Humanistic Management
  • An interview in Japans third largest daily newspaper with a print run of 10 million copies: Interview in Seikyo Shimbun
